Cedric

Cedric the goose is the undeniable Emperor of the McFadden farm.  Born on the farm ten years prior, the chick had sadly been orphaned. Mr. McFadden never knew what happened to Cedric’s brother and sister chicks, or where his mother or father went. They simply disappeared one day. All the farmer could speculate was that some wild pack of dog got to the rest of Cedric’s family, and somehow Cedric survived.

As Cedric matured, he could have flown away from the farm, but he never chose to do so.  Cedric had free rein of Mr. Mc Fadden’s pond, but at some point a part of the farm was parceled off to sub-dividers and Cedric lost his pond and was confined to a small barnyard.  He was well-fed and cared for, enjoyed Smooch, and apparently saw no reason to leave.

Because he had lived his life alone and had little interaction with other geese, Cedric enjoyed the company of his new friends when they arrived. In Cedric’s eyes the little pig was lazy, but he was cute and clever.  Cedric was at first concerned with Puddleby’s arrival, but soon discovered the pony’s loving nature and realized that when he stretched his neck to full height, he met eye to eye with Puddleby – and it is true the two are definitely equals.

Cedric is a magnificent goose and can stretch his long neck nearly 4 feet in the air.  This neck and his loud honk made Cedric a great guard, and as the barnyard friendship matured Cedric took his natural place as protector of the yard.
